The Artsy Flea
Saturday, January 16
(Los Angeles, CA) – LA Event Company is launching its newest and most inspired weekly Artsy Flea this January, the Artsy Flea at Van De Kamp: a marketplace for unique and handmade goods that come from the world of fashion, jewelry, and art in addition to a curated selection of Antiques, Vintage and Collectibles
Not since 1991…
In 1991 I started a flea market at the Fairfax High School. It was a small “New York” style flea that I modeled after one of my hometown favorites, The Sunday Flea at 77th and Columbus. Every Sunday as a teenager, I’d walk across town with my dog to this Manhattan staple. It was something I looked forward to each week and I did that for years before moving to Los Angeles. A friend took me to the Rose Bowl and albeit an amazing Flea, it was massive and not very intimate. It was not The Columbus Avenue Flea. Its been over 20 years since I created the Melrose Avenue Flea at Fairfax and for more than 20 years I have been on the lookout for what could be the next “Melrose” and that search is over.
The Artsy Flea is sandwiched between Atwater Village and Highland Park serving the NELA Arts community and beyond. We have free parking and $1 admission plus we will be a 100% curated Art & Flea Market with over 145 booths, food trucks, mobile boutiques, music and kids attractions. Every Saturday 10-3 (fall/winter) and til 5pm (spring/summer)
We hope you can join us for the Grand Opening on Saturday January 16th, 2016!
Wishing you the Happiest of Holidays,
– Phillip and Shelly Dane
This event is located at VDK at 2930 Fletcher Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90039. Parking is free. General admission is $1 For more information, please visit theoddmarket.com/artsyflea
About VDK
The Van de Kamp Bakery Building was built in 1930 in the Glassell Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. It served as the headquarters of the chain of bakeries and coffee shops known for their distinctive windmill architecture. The building was designed by New York architect J. Edward Hopkins to resemble a Dutch 16th century farmhouse. Originally there was a Van de Kamp’s store next to the building, which was one of the first Van de Kamp’s stores ever made and had the famous Van de Kamp’s windmill style design. The building remains the only example of an industrial plant in the Dutch Renaissance Revival style.
