Artist Suzanne Lizotte will present her series Los Angeles: A Different Narrative during stARTup Art Fair 2020 Hollywood Sign Wildfire, Oil on canvas
January 9, 2020, Los Angeles, Calif.–stARTup Art Fair is pleased to present its fifth annual Los Angeles edition to take place February 14 – February 16, 2020 at Pacifica Hotels’ The Kinney Venice Beach hotel in Los Angeles.
The contemporary art fair transforms the chic California hotel and grounds by over 70 artists welcoming art to experience an immersive, contemporary art experience through the exhibition of artwork by a diverse group of independent artists, local art nonprofits, artist performances, and panel discussions. Bypassing the traditional gallery system, stARTup connects art buyers directly to up-and-coming artists. In its fifth year in Los Angeles (stARTup is also held annually in San Francisco and Houston) the fair will present its most geographically diverse cohort with four countries represented (USA, Canada, United Kingdom, The Netherlands) and ten states (California, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, New York, New Jersey, Washington, and Virginia).
Each year’s Opening Night Party (Friday, February 14 from 7-10 pm) is open to all members of the public at the price of a General Admission ticket and includes, music, performances, food, and drink.

Programming
In addition to the committee-selected artists presenting their work this year, stARTup Art Fair Los Angeles will present curated rooms from six beloved Los Angeles and regional art non-profit partners including The Lancaster Museum of Art and History, Launch LA the Los Angeles Art Association, The Los Angeles Center of Photography, Art Share LA and Venice Arts.
stARTup will also present an onsite installation and panel discussion program curated by Swedish-born, American-based curator Josefin Lundhal who remarks, “I wanted our programming to offer each visitor an opportunity to not only connect with our fantastic artists in the hotel rooms, but also in the spaces between.” On opening night Elizabeth Yochim, a multimedia performance artist, dancer, filmmaker and art historian, will launch the fair with her performance Angelbird, story of a woman who transforms into a bird. The narrative of Angelbird will unfold all over different parts of the fair and throughout the evening. In the entrance and throughout the public spaces of the fair, Patricia Rubio will be showing a collection of brand new sculptures titled BLURPS. Both suspended shapes and freestanding totems, these sculptures bring her signature abstracted shapes to life, and reference language via the 21st-century word “blurb” meaning a quick, dashed off summary. In conversation, stARTup will host artist Miles Regis. The Trinidad-born artists invite listeners to his subject matters which fluctuates from human emotion to stories of freedom, love, loss, activism and survival.
