Abstract Expressionist Michael Moon debuts his latest series in the ‘Delson Lounge’ – the Equilibrium Paintings. A quest for simplicity, purity and innocence led the artist to interpret architectural perspective, mark making
and line.

Participating Artists:
Angelique Antoniou, Alexander Gramm, Sylvia H. Goulden, Maureen Haldeman, Karen Hansen, Claudio Luchina, Walter Mazzarella, Crystal Michaelson, Stephen Schubert, Daniela Schweitzer, Noah Scott, Linda Stelling, Tanya Wolf Ragir & Robert Toll.

“Equilibrium”

“While I lived in Oregon for the last 2 years prior to moving to New Mexico, I painted three series. “Equilibrium” is the most authentic, is the most honest and touches more to the core. Essentially, this series is a visual and visceral act to honestly keep my head above water during some difficult times.
In some ways I wanted to regain my innocence. So I somehow went back to my childhood. When I was in the fourth or fifth grade, my Grandfather taught me how to draw buildings with perspective. I loved making buildings look real, and I drew them time and time again. There was something about that process that made my feel somehow connected and safe. So when I started the”Equilibrium” series on some level the frame that surrounds the pictures inside or the buildings at certain angles gave me a sense of familiarity and coming home.
At the same time, I started looking at Matisse and the second half of his painting life. What I was struck by most of all was his innocence and purity and how he conveyed it through such simplicity. Although my marks are not like Matisse at all, his essence, purity and innocence affected me.“
– Michael Moon
